Starting problem

Starting problem
I suddenly have a no-start problem and thought I might save myself some time in my cold garage by posting a quick question here: My 2000 Disco failed to start the other day, after I had driven a few miles, parked and attempted to re-start. The starter turned a couple of time, then quit. A second try brought the same results, but with a little less response from the starter. Didn't have much time to spend then, so I jumped into my daily driver and went on with the day. Tried to start a couple of hours later and heard only a bit of a chirp from the starter, but since then not even that. I have a nearly new battery and a quick test shows that it's not the problem and all other electricals work. Did a quick search and found nothing quite like this issue.
I assume that this arctic weather will eventually break and I'll be a little more enthusiastic about spending time in the garage, though at 75 it may be June before that feels right. In the meantime, any suggestion of a proper approach to this issue will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hey Steve,
I know that you stated that you don't think it's your battery but did you check your actual terminal connection? I was puzzled by Bertha doing that a few years back and it was the terminal connection on the positive lead. I had a newish battery at the time and couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. May be worth another look.
Have you had your starter replaced in the past? A Disco in the garage would explain why I didn't see you at the Village last Saturday!

After checking/cleaning terminals at battery, be sure to check ground cable connection at alternator bracket. It may look clean and tight, but remove and wire brush terminal and mounting area. Known problem area for bad connection. These are all maintenance type of repairs and cost nothing, so a good place to start. If cleaning terminals and having a freshly charge battery still don't do the trick...most likely the starter.

After making sure the terminals and grounds are clean, get anlength of wire and jump the starter from the battery with the ignition on. If the starter turns over fine look elsewhere, if not, get a new one. Best recommended me a partsplayer from Amazon, less than 100, but has started eagerly well below zero.
