They are doing the swaps for Trail Head now and it runs roughly $12k from what I understand.

Interesting. Is Trail Head about 10k still? Or are the prices about the same?

The only thing an LS will provide is more easily available power, and that is only if you utilized an different engine management system, which trailhead does not.

If you don't want or need 500hp, an LS makes no sense. If you can deal with 300-350 and a bullet proof small block, a quality rover build will cover all the basis.

Plus the rover is over-square as hell. If you open the heads and exhaust up, it will rev for days, and love it. A disco 2 would feel like a completely different animal with 100 more ft / lb and power available from 1800 all the way to 5k.

The LS swap was never done for power. It was for reliability and repair cost.

How about a build thread? Consolidate your part numbers and pics, document any hurdles, drop the bomb.

which is ridiculous. there's nothing inherently more reliable about the average LS than a well done Rover v8. One could argue that the rover could do with a roller conversion but that's debatable. (no, im not arguing that the 4.6 was reliable from the get-go, Rover clearly dropped the ball when they let offset castings make it into production vehicles)

The entire world has been having a blast with rover v8's for as long as we've been playing with chevy small blocks here in the states. we know everything there is to know about them. so it comes down to numbers. 5k for a reliable engine, or 12k for a reliable engine... seems like a no brainer for a 5k vehicle.

It's almost like you read my thread, the $10k is easier to swallow if you do it a piece at a time like I did. (I don't have that much in my swap, 150 hours of labor @ what I'm worth per hour is around $75)

Side note: The engine is the last thing I have to worry about now, haven't touched it since the install. Transmission did take a dump though, completely self destructed but still came out of the woods in 2nd gear.
