State of engine swaps/builds in 2018?
Paranoia?
I agree if you start with a good D2, keep it maintained and monitor for the few know issues they can be very reliable.

The main weaknesses of the engine are the oil pump issue, which should be totally gone now, the slipped liner that is fixed with the tophatted sleeves, and sensitivity to heat, but all engines can be ruined by overheating.
Turner has the sleeves Long blocks with upgraded cams and gas flowed headers, and Toddco builds a 5.0 Rover engine. It would be awesome to have an engine that could get say, 20mpg, but a well maintained rover V8 is fine IMO with the tophatted liners.
Gas flowed heads, not headers.
Also, while the VIN range isnt an issue any more, there are certainly still oil pump issues for all Rover V8s. They should be replace at a minimum every 100k miles. I do 60k with the big 60k service and every time the front cover comes off, which isn't often.
I sure would love one of those Todd Co 5.0s. Maybe one day.

Yes, heads. On my phone!I am really jealous of the Toddco 5.0. But with my Turner engine, non-flowed heads, with the H180 Cam, I don’t really feel I NEED more power, but being a male, I’d sure like some.
The ToddCo 5.0 might be exactly what I'm after... Extra power, but not a Frankenstein swap. Looks like it'd come out a bit cheaper than the Trailhead LS swap, too. I've reached out to the owner of shop that's local to me, which who pioneered LS swaps in Japanese cars, as well.
Looking to learn more... My engine is running strong but when the time comes, it is going to be a brand new rebuild, possibly Todco 5.0.
A new SUV that I like is more than $40K and it comes with all the stuff I hate, like app suites and such. $20K for a fully build ready-to-go Disco is a small price to pay. Plus, wtf is happening to body shapes? Gimme boxy cars now.

Has Lucky8 started doing the LS swaps for Trailhead yet? I don’t see it on their website. I’ve tried to look at the trailhead site, but it makes my head spin and their facebook hasn’t been updared in about a year. Ohio may just be a bridge too far. Has anyone seen any first hand reviews? I can’t find much but am really intrigued. When my block finally goes, I had always planned to go with a 4.6 long block from turner, but the more I think about it, I don’t know why I wouldn’t do the LS just to make my life easier for the next decade.
