Question Steering Box Leak

The hydraulic pipe on the steering box of my 2002 Discovery is leaking power steering fluid from the front coupling. You can see the fluid as it gushes out of the front fitting when the engine is running. Does the steering box need to be removed to install a new hydraulic pipe? If so, does it make sense to replace the other 3 power steering related hoses at this point? The hydraulic pipe is about $35 shipped and the remaining hoses around $250. A local mechanic will be doing the work. So, I'd rather do it once and be done.

Steering box does not need to be removed. I'd just replace the hose that's leaking. But that's just what I would do.

you just may want to try a local heavy machine repair shop, they usually make hoses on site and use heavier stock. I have had to do it with some of my older vehicles that they no longer make hoses for. fairly inexpensive compared to LR I would guess. you could have you local mechanic pull the hose of and bring them to the local shop to be duplicated.

Appreciate the good information. The known problem is with the hydraulic pipe which is a metal tube and not a hose. It appears to recirculate fluid within the steering box. I searched and read several other posts and found none that referred to this pipe. The posts covered the hoses, PAS and steering box but none mentioned this pipe.

Is this the pipe you're referring to? Land Rover Parts | Rovers North
If so the answer is still no you don't have to remove the gear. (to be honest, I've never seen that pipe fail, the box usually gets replaced and that pipe comes with the new one)

Yes, that's the part. I couldn't find any posts that even referred to this pipe. I'm perplexed how such a fitting could fail so miserably. The fluid just spews out of the front fitting. Since, the steering box does not need to be removed I'm going to replace the pipe and hope the hoses aren't leaking. They don't appear to have any leaks. Maybe I'll get lucky and there will be no damage to the steering box. Appreciate all the guidance.
