Default Steering Box leak FIX?

1998 Disco I- My steering box is leaking at the bottom around the lower shaft.
I know some of you have done this before but I'm not able to find any posts with tutorials or advise on how to replace the lower seals!

I got a complete seal kit but I would only replace the lower seals, if possible ,without having to tear down the whole box. Also, what kind of tool is used to remove the hex cap in the 2nd picture?

Any advise?

My mechanic says that he tried to do this rebuild for his boss a couple of years ago and that it's an exercise in futility. There seems to be a non-replaceable part on the shaft that's the real culprit. Best bet is to find a used non-leaky box.

Best of luck,

What size is the nut on the end of the sector shaft? Is it a 36mm? I need to get a socket so I can replace my leaking seal. I already have the seal kit.

HEY GUYS !
You may not want to go this route....if you plug one leak on these things...quite often another will spring up !! I fiddled around for a year with mine ( DI '98 150000 mi), finally i sent it out to place called REM STEERING in CA, they're on the net.....cost for the rebuild was $260. including return shipping to me !!! so far so good NO LEAKS !
