does anyone know what size threads are needed for securing a plate over the low/high pressure ports on the steering box? gonna clean the unit shipped to me
before I do anything with it. so no cleaning agent/dirt gets into it.

Maybe just cut/crimp the old hoses.

By the way, cinching down the adjuster too tight will cause wear on the worm screw and sector shaft roller. It should be just tight enough to take out the gap.

I turned it a bit (on the unit on the disco) and it has provided some relief when attempting to keep the rig going in a straight
line without moving the wheel back/forth. The bump when returning to the 12:00 position from a right turn is still there.

anyone know what size the 4 mounting bolts on the steering box are? M12 X 1.75? I want to run a tap thru the holes in the box & clean them out good before
attempting install.

cleaned the exterior of the replacement unit. plugs were installed in the hydraulic ports before starting. used gunk engine degreaser first, scrubbed it well, hosed off....then
onto using rustoleum gel to get the rusty bits back to clean metal. Mostly cleaned up.

Will tape off the threaded ends of the input shaft and nut holding the pitman arm off...

then onto paint. pic below:

after top coat:

primer only at this point... will be applying a high heat, oil resistant top coat (2) once primer has dried. taped off the input/output shaft, adjuster nut and screw and hydraulic
line.

[redrover75] I'm guessing but I think the leak on the unit that you sent me may have been at the adjuster nut. There is a copper washer under the bolt securing it.
There is a recess under the nut. That recess won't seal properly (from what I read) without a special nut (25.00) that has red nylon built into the underside that goes into
that recessed area. I can replace this once on the truck if need be without having to do too much work..

this one:

Interesting, I never looked that closely at it. Sounds like an easy fix. Glad you figured it out.

I have a new high pressure o-ring to put on the line going into the box as well. They want 28.00 for that nut...scoundrels!
