Default Steering pump

So my 02 disco the steering pump has been leaking a bit for a while now but never have had to put more fluid it
Really small leak
Now days especially when cold and when the engine is cold I hear it screeching
Now not sure if it's the pump or Maybe the lower steering mechanism what ever it's called
Suggestions and thanks
Also if it is the pump should one replace it or rebuild it
A preferable rebuild kit maybe?
As always thank you all very much

A screech is probably the pump. Can you tell where the leak is coming from? It is generally the hoses.

FWIW you need to be really diligent about keeping the PS fluid off of the hoses (causes them to swell and crack) and the bump stops above the axle (eats them).

Also, air in the pump can make it work poorly--but it sounds like you have worse issues.

The re-build-- really just a re-seal-- on my steering pump was easy. I think the manufacturer of the kit is Gotex. I found it by searching here. Good Luck!
