Stereo Install
I have a 95 disco and i and trying to get the factory stereo out without destroying it. Is there a tool for the two little holes on the side in order to get it out in one piece? If there is a tool where can i find that tool.
I stuck an allen key in the two little hole in the front, and when I felt that the radio was loose, I pulled it out. I planned to install an aftermarket stereo in my disco but I forgot about it when I saw the bunch of wires behind the factory one...
What you need are two "Alpine" stereo removal tools which can be picked up on ebay (which I did for about 4 bucks) or I am sure you could get them or maybe even borrow themfrom an audio shop. The first time you take the stereo out it can be a little tricky. I had to get two wrenches and tug like a mad man (not unlike my personal life). There is a detailed explanation on here somewhere with pics as a guy installed an Ipod interface.

All different radio manufacturers use different "keys" to remove thier respective units. The flat ones you mention are for the Alpine headunits fitted to the D2. The D1 had Philips and clarion units andthey have 2 holes each side as opposed to the 2 slots that the Alpine has a the top. So for the D1 you need keys like the picture I posted further up the topic, they are like the "original" type DIN removal tools.
Nowadays the manufacturers use all diff variations of the flat keys like the Alpine ones, but they are all "slightly" different. My factory Becker NAV unit uses flat keys, but they are half as long and fatter than the Alpine ones for example. Not many (if any) still use the DIN keys like the D1 had as they are "easy" to replicate using allen keys or small screwdrivers, so they were easy for thieves tosteal the stereos even without the correct tools

I have a D1 that has just one removal hole on each side of the radio face. I believe that it is made by Pioneer but not positive. I do know the CD changer under the passenger seat is made by Pioneer. I am looking for tools to remove my radio also so I can install the direct connect cable for my Sirius Radio,
