Default Stereo Wiring through models...

Hello:

Does anyone know if any/which speakers are pre-wired in the disco 2's throughout all the models?

I ask because there's new blood at the local U-pull yard, and the interior looks perfect. I have a lowly S model, and this pretty beast has like 6 more speakers than mine. I took the tailgate liner with the dual 4 inch(?) speakers only to get home and find there's no magical little harness waiting for the new noise box. I figured before I waste time and money pulling the rest out of the doner, I'd ask you guys if the upper door speakers were wired in all models and just not used. I figured they would be, as the wiring for the heated seats was sitting there behind the switch plate, begging to be used... but maybe not.

I honestly, have no idea but i would guess because the british are weird that every truck got the same wiring harness regardless of trim level. The whole heated seats thing is a good example of that.

That's what I figured. Maybe it was just shoved up in the swing gate and I missed it. I'll have some time tomorrow and will take a look. Hopefully they're pre-wired. If not I'll just take the harnesses and run my own I think

I’m no stereo expert, but I’m pretty sure the S Model D2 doesn’t have an amp under the drivers seat so you don’t get mid range tweeters on the front/back doors or the 6.5inch SUB’s on the back cargo door. However with that being said it is easier to install an aftermarket stereo into an S model vs SE/HSE because you don’t have to worry about the amp.

I have an 04 S model and I slapped in a cheap 50.00 bluetooth/USB/Stereo & it sounds very good. On two of my other D2’s the rear sub’s just rattle the license plate bracket so on my 99 I ditched the sub’s when I installed my aluminum door panel. I honestly haven’t missed it.

Yeah, I would plan on grabbing the amp/head unit too. The main reason I'm interested in doing it, is for those tweeters in the upper door panel. But I totally hear you that it's just adding more headache haha

The door panels themselves are also a lot nicer, but I guess I could always just swap them, and leave the speakers disconnected too.

Have you tried slapping some dynomat in the door panel to stop the rattle?

I tried several things to silence the rattle, fix one thing and then something else would rattle. I removed it and noticed no lack of stereo sound. It certainly sounds better outside minus the rattle.

THIS...."every truck got the same wiring harness regardless of trim level"
YES...."I’m pretty sure the S Model D2 doesn’t have an amp under the drivers seat"

I have an 03 "S" with basic door panels and no mid range speaker. No amp either. I picked up one broken door panel at the salvage yard to use as a go-by for cutting the holes in my panels. I also grabbed some speakers, but the cones were trashed. I just gutted them and mounted my new mid range inside. Looks perfectly factory.

I have the S model with no mids/tweets in the door, just the low 6.25"... The only highs are from the tweets in the A pillars, which my gf hates because she says they put out way too much treble, directed right at the face... well if you are that height... Also replaced the head unit with a Kenwood which made the existing speakers come to life.
