Looks like there is scoring to me. Can you catch a fingernail on any of those surfaces(not the deliberate cut out but just next to it)

No, it's smooth.
I see what you're talking about, but
the picture is deceptive.
Must be the lighting.

No more ticking!
I was confident the broken oil pump gear was the tick, and so far, no ticking.
I have an unrelated miss, but I did let it run long enough for the thermostat to open and fill the coolant.
It still doesn't run hot either.
Sucess! I hope it continues, lol.

The weird part is that the tick goes away above idle. Obviously not rod knock!

Could it be a valve or valve guide problem??
Oil pump chain slapping a cog??

What the heck makes the noise go away above 1,500 RPMs?

The noise actually still there but more in tune with the rpm with faster intervals.
