Default Strange Gas tank issue? 28MPG?

So I bought a used D2 V8 4.0 and everything seemed fine. Generally good condition, 122,000 miles. The fuel gauge showed 1/3rd full so I went to fill up but could only get $20 in before it would not fill anymore, shaking the last drips in. Obviously the pump sender is faulty as it only went to 5/8th full on the gauge? So I reset the trip meter and after 173 miles today I went to fill up expecting to put 11 gallons in - I could only get 6 gallons in.

Any ideas anyone? I did think that the tank maybe be full of drugs! Not checked that one out. Otherwise I am getting 28mpg and that cannot be right. Faulty fuel filler neck perhaps? Seems unlikely.

Yea it's not 28mpg more like your vent is blocked not allowing air to escape as you pump triggering the stop on the pump

I got 17.4 MPG on a 1,200 mile trip at 65 MPH.
