Default Strange happenings??

Drove my disco to work today, everything ran just fine. Got to work then left to run to the bank. Started my disco and the engine started making loud knocking and shaking, sounded like a diesel. Then stalled out. Started again same thing, loud knocking then stall out.

What could possibly cause this?

Oil level normal? Water in oil (milkshake)? Oil in coolant (gross head gasket leak)?

Cool off engine and re-try - crank position sensor on left rear of engine might be going out. You can also pour water on it to chill it.

Bad coil pack? Someone swapped your plug wires? Melted wires on manifold from things like O2 sensors and such? Unplugged sensor under hood? Any codes?

Cedric will be glad to look at your truck...

Oil is normal, no water in oil. Just changed the coolant a few days ago everything looked good. Plug wires are good, replaced them a few months ago and added bosch +4's. O2 sensors replaced less than a year ago.

I will go try and start her up in a few hours, hopefully just a sensor.

And best part- no codes!?

If you are not mechanical, do not start it again. Do you have a good Rover mechanic, if so, have it towed to their shop, not a dealer, have them tell you what is wrong and get an estimate, then get back to us so we can make sure they are not screwing you.

Good point. "knocking" noise is never a good sign, and sound is one of the things that is hard to describe or even record for this site.

Thanks for the suggestion Mike but i dont know any rover specific mechanics but my father has been working on cars since he was 10 and has a personal shop, he and i have already work on my disco from suspension to valley pan but hes not able to come check it out until later tonight. Im comfortable doing any engine work without bringing it to a mechanic.
I only started it once after it happened to listen where it might be comming from, sounds like lower end.

Im looking for ideas of what might be wrong before I jump in blind.

Okay Mike has made a very important point starting your engine again can cause worse internal damage and possibly cost you a engine so you should definitely listen. Should be a two person job with experience under the bonnet side
