Strange sound from passenger airbag area on 2002 Disco II
I have an odd sqeak or ckicking sound (like rubber or plastic touching then moving) coming from my passenger side air bag area. I tried pulling the glove box and looking around, but can not find the source. I talked with my land rover dealer and they told me that you can not mess around inside there. They said that the airbag deploying actually damages the dash. I was able to slip a putty knife and some thin fire resistant fabric inside along the edges of the airbag and it seemed to help some. I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions on this one. I was hoping that the door on the airbag could be opened and I could clean it out a bit inside. The sound seems to be worse in the summer when it is hot outside.
Not sure what you are referring to as a door? You can remove the Pass side air bag by removing the inverted torks bolts accessible once the glove box is removed.
The "door" I was thinking of would be the seam on the external part of the dash where the bag would open as it is filled or deployed. Is there a way to open that area without damaging the dash board? If not, If you remove the air bag after you have taken off the glove box, can you access the internal part of bag? I am hoping to be able to clean off whatever is causing the noise. Thanks in advance for any help.
Do yourself a hugh favor and don't mess with the area around the air bag, you have no idea of the explosive damage that can be caused to you.
Go have a mechanic, who is used to working with these bags, do the work.
