So I recently purchased a 2002 discovery and it appeared to have a bunch of issues such as overheating and other quirks upon purchasing. Since then I literally cannot get it to overheat and the only thing I've done is a coolant flush and changed the throttle body deicer, which had warped and would leak most of the coolant out. Anyways, so the car runs great but makes a few odd noises under some conditions. Most common noise occurs around 2k rpms and will stop when the rpms are dropped, but today I tested this while driving at around 50 mph and shifting into 3rd gear and keeping foot on the throttle. With the engine at over 2k and my foot on the gas the noise is still present, but when I took my foot off the gas the noise went away even though the rpms remained high. Would this imply its something in the drive train? If so I'm assuming my front driveshaft is on its way out. Is it possible for the driveshaft to make a few different sounds? A few different noises occur under similar conditions and I'm wondering if there is a connection. Sorry this is long winded, just trying to sort the truck out, thanks.

The noise is a squeaking noise that tends to get louder and higher pitched if rpms are increased after the noise starts. It comes and goes and sounds a little different each time.

 

I might've just missed it, but what does the noise sound like?

 

Sorry I never put that in there I guess. Its a squeaking sound, not very high pitched, but sometimes it seems to have a faint knocking sound. To be honest it kind of changes from time to time which is what confuses me about it.
