Default stuck key

We have a 2000 Disco II and every once in awhile the key gets stuck in the ignition. We've tried turning the steering wheel and checking we are in Park but it just won't pull out. To make things worse when it does this we can't start the engine either. Usually we just end up playing with it until it finally releases but it is very annoying. Anyone have any suggestions as to what is going on?

My humble guess is that maybe the teeth on the key or the lock cylinder has worn down a bit. Have you tried using your spare? Does it do the same thing?

Check the nut that holds theshiftier handle on its underthecap on top.
It maybe loose this will keep the key in and stop it from starting ( not all the in park ).

I had a sticky key when I first picked up my 2001. The thing that worked for me was a little bit of '3 in 1' oil on the key for a couple days in a row (the kind you drip out, not spray). Basically I'd put just a bit of oil on the key itself then insert and remove it from the column a few times before wiping the excess oil off the key with a paper towel.

Since that time I've not had any problems.

I had a similar problem with my 98 disco and had to remove the lock cylinder to fix it...there's a small in that keeps the entire chamber from rotating and it wiggled loose...I put it back with a dab of loctite and haven's had any other problems.

I had the same problemwith a 97 Disco. My techs took care of it. All I know it was something to do when you put it in park. Something was NOT clicking right. It was such a pain of a problem. I know that doesnt help much but i'll try and find more from them.
