You are in a pickle if it needs to be reprogrammed. I would wonder if you could remove the ECU and BCU and ship them to a shop or dealer? Perhaps others will comment. Nothing like having a great vehicle a great distance from a great repair shop. Do you have spark when cranking?

One more thought came to mind. The day before this happened, I was listening to a weak am radio channel on the radio. When I used my signal lights, it made a clicking noise through the radio speakers. It had never done that before, so I took notice. But I don't really use signal lights up here much so I figured it went away or was just a weird thing.

Could that mean I have a possible short?

 

No, a weak AM signal would also pickup any electrical arc from the truck, flasher, relay on/off, etc. Wait until you drive by the welding shop listening to the same station.

OK. No spark is pretty sure that CKP (crank shaft position sensor) is not doing its job. Here is a color pix of it (attached).

Sensor has a two wire cable plus a shield (screen). The shield ties to frame ground. The wires are pink with black, and black with yellow. The sensor is a coil of wire. The tip is next to a slotted reluctor disc, and the disc flying by makes a weak electrical signal which the ECU filters and uses to control timing. If you could get the connector off you might read for ohms, I don't kow the exact value, but your's might be open, perhaps from a bad solder joint. These other pix are of a sensor taken apart, and the slotted disc it almost touches.

 

Lock frozen. I can't find my lock deicer! I'll keep looking through my bins or track some down….
I have only cranked the engine a couple of times today to check for spark. My battery measured 12.4 about 2 hours ago, and is now down to 12.2 volts.
I will put the charger on it again. I also have another boosting battery. This is telling me something. It's not that cold out today. Yesterday actually got up to above freezing. battery has been strong, but maybe it decided to go, or maybe I'm onto something in suspecting a short. Y

 

I will try measuring the CKP and see if I can find one in Fort Macmurry.

 

Do you know a part number for the CPK 1999 disco 2?

 

I got mine from NAPA... Gave them my make and model, and they had one the same day. Give them a ring, they should have it listed.

I read about the CPK. I'm going to see if I can get a part, then go under the hood and wiggle some wires and assess the job.
