#1 fuse is for the shift interlock when the ignition is swithched on and the brake pedal is pressed it sends a signal to the solenoid in the transmission range selector switch. sound like there is either a short or a bad solenoid in the trans. do you have a copy of the rave cd? if so it gives a pretty good wiring diagram of what is on that circuit. there is also an interlock relay behind the glove box. let me know if you need more info...

Default Brake light switch

I had the same problem last week. My old land rover mechanic said 99% of the time its the brake light switch. The part is $30 online or $80 at the stealer. The best way to check is have someone stand behind the car and press the brakes, if the lights dont come on that is the problem. It wasnt too hard to change but he walked me through it. The small part is connected to the brake. 1. Remove the little panel buttons above your brake. 2. Press the brake and remove old switch. 3. Press the brake and put new switch in and look at the grooves because it only goes in one way. It snaps in and your good to go.

I forgot one last thing shaggy. Their are 2 switches , the first one is the cruise control and the second one up is the brake light switch. And to find them just follow you brake pedal all the way up. I am not even close to a mechanic and I was able to do it and I am sure you could do it.

If you are blowing a fuse, I don't believe it will be your brake switch.
I you apply your brakes, do your brake lights work?
Sounds more like a bad solenoid or a pinched wire.
