Default Stupid Mechanic

So I dropped off my truck at an exhaust shop to get some new o2 bungs welded in on Monday. I call today to see how it is going and they tell me that they can’t do it(would have been nice to have been told earlier) They said that I need to take it to the dealership to get it fixed. Would have been nice to know this before. Also to get the y pipe out it is just like 12 nuts. I hate ignorant mechanics. I’m going to the shop after school and I hope they don’t charge me for it.
Wish me luck!

They better not charge you. There's no reason an exhaust shop can't do it and it does NOT need to go to a mechanic.

They are standard exhaust bungs, nothing exotic. They could cut out and re-weld the pipes if they had to. It's literally an exhaust shop, that's what they do all day.

My recommendation would be to find a better exhaust shop. Sounds like this one just doesn't want the work.

I agree. Any decent exhaust shop can do it. The dealer won’t do it either, they’ll replace the complete section for a fortune.

My exhaust shop guy = I have LR people all over TX driving hours to come see him. Justin Powell (Powell Muffler & Brake in Vidor, TX) knows how to weld up any exhaust config you could ever want, he does quality work, and he is fair. Every single LR I've owned since getting back into them = he has done the exhaust work on (resonator delete) or replacing the stock muffler for a magnaflow. Definitely find another shop!

Thank god he didn’t charge me. They were an exhaust shop and I had already removed the rear O2 sensors but the front ones are too stuck in there. Also I took off one side of the y pipe to fix an exhaust leak. I did half the work for them. They just didn’t want the work or something. Who knows

Just a guess: they’re probably not legally allowed to do it as they’re part of the emission system.
I certainly wouldn’t want to run with out them... but then again I do like to breath. I’m funny that way.

Welding a nut/bung on to attach an O2 sensor is far from being illegal.

I might have miss understood. I assumed bung meant a plug in place of the o2 sensor. Shouldn’t chime in on what I know nothing about. Sorry.
