Subwoofer Mounting Depth
Have a Disco 2, 2002. What's the best depth for an easy replacement of the cargo door subwoofers?
- Nice subs are about 3.35
- Saw one guy install a 3.00 depth(had to trim enclosure)
- Guessing that 2.5 depth is closest to factory? They are pretty average sound.
Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't put aftermarket subs in the factory housing. Anything that pushes more air will very likely rattle the door quite a bit.
That said, I think there is a cut out in the door itself that will allow you quite a bit of depth. I'm not positive though, so don't hold me to it.

So you just added regular speakers? Do they have a low level sound? Or am I off on this.
Yes, they have low level sound. They are full-range speakers.
The crossover in the system amplifier directs only the sub-level frequencies to those speakers, so only the bass comes out of them. Since they're not specifically designed as subwoofers the sound they are not as efficient or as clear as you'd get from true subs, but it works well enough for my listening.

I like bass so this weekend I added the 6.5" Pyle PLG64X 4ohm 300 Watt Gear-X series speakers.
fyi... I've read that the stock rear door speakers are 2 ohms so I wired both of my new 4ohm speakers in parallel from the stock amps 1 connection (pos & neg) to equal 2ohms.
Of course these won't thump like a 10" - 18" subwoofer but for $10 apiece they added some umpf to Myrtle's sound system.
