Subwoofer Mounting Depth
I like bass so this weekend I added the 6.5" Pyle PLG64X 4ohm 300 Watt Gear-X series speakers.
fyi... I've read that the stock rear door speakers are 2 ohms so I wired both of my new 4ohm speakers in parallel from the stock amps 1 connection (pos & neg) to equal 2ohms.
Of course these won't thump like a 10" - 18" subwoofer but for $10 apiece they added some umpf to Myrtle's sound system.

I used only one channel from the stock 2ohm amp to parallel wire the 2 mono rear speakers (subs). not so much shorted but dropped the resistance to 2 ohms at 1 channel instead of 4 ohms at 2 channels.
3" is about right for the depth. I compared the stock old speakers to my new Pyle PLG64 and they were the same height but the magnet on the Pyle is bigger/wider. I had to drill and roll back the panel a tad bit on inside top and bottom to make space for the speaker so it wouldn't rub on the magnet. BTW the Pyle's have a rubber ring around the magnet.
There are other 6.5" speakers that are sold as low profile/shallow speakers but they are more money... $95/pair and up.

Those Memphis PRX6D2 6.5" look nice but the magnet looks huge. You will definitely have to mod the panel to fit that.
yea but damn they sound great. That's all I've ever used in my vehicles and they are worth every penny
I just installed the Pyramid WX65X from amazon today. They sound and fit great. Was able to use original mounting hardware and screw spots. Had to bang for a little clearance on the right side to give a little more access for the larger magnet. Left side was fine. Needed roughly about a 1/4". Cut the leads of the original speakers, crimped some connectors to them and worked perfect. Was able to use the stock connector mounted to the enclosure just like stock. Couldn't be any happier.
Oh and they are 3.4" deep and had no trouble.

I've mentioned this in the audio section, but I bent the small female connector and attached both original wires to the PLPW6D. These work without any alterations. Sound great.
They have fat magnets. Is there anyway to squeeze them in the cargo hole? I dont want to cut the hole, maybe bend the metal? Only needs about .5in on the right speaker.
Help.
