Default Suggestions for a ski rack?

Hey guys - I am thinking about getting a ski rack, or a basket, for my 1999 DII Disco and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what get?

I would love to get those ... but I really don't want to have to drill anything. The only snap in for DI's right?

Yakima Big Powderhound or the new Yakima FatCat. Tough as nails and you can always get your money out of them if you pick them up used on Ebay. Only drawback is the overall height of the truck with the rack. You need to extra careful going into garages. Phil

Thanks! I was really leaning towards Yakima... I have heard good things.

Does anyone know where I can get cheap crossbars to attach these things to?

you don't need them. Of course you can buy them and the lowriders to attach to the side rails or you can just buy the adapters and put them right on the aero style Land Rover cross bars. I just put the lowriders, cross bars and big powderhounds on my kids' Discovery over the weekend. They used them today at Snowbird, meanwhile dad is in San Diego trying to pay for their college.........Phil

I run Yakima FatCat6 on Yakima crossbars with LowRider attachments to the original stock rails. I love the FatCats but like another member mentioned height starts getting to be an issue. With an Old Man Emu suspension the top of the FatCats is 6' 11 1/2".

At work, I actually have to roll them back because even though the garage is rated at 7' - I ended up rubbing one of the girders that had extra insulation on it...

As far as finding crossbars, etc., Craigslist is a good place to check.

Another option is a ski rack attachment from Yakima or Thule that attaches to their bike rack that then goes into your tow hitch. I used this combo last winter and worked great, no issues with roof height and for me, less chance of injury climbing to the roof. The only drawback is the equiptment does get pretty dirty sitting behind the vehicle, but for me there are more pros than cons.

I have this exact same setup. Works perfectly. FatCat6 w/ Yakima crossbars and LowRider attachments on stock rails.
