Default Sunroof problem

I have a '96 Disco. The sunroofs won't close automatically anymore. I have to manually guide them closed. I'm pretty sure it's because the screws are loose and whenever I go to close it, just before it bites down and closes, the sunroof misalligns itself and prevents it from closing. So I found the star bit I needed to tightn the screws, but they won't bite down and tighten up. They just keep turning. Is there a trick to it?

Not to steal your post, but i am having the opposite problem with my 95 discovery. My sunroofs will only open if i push up on them when i'm pressing the switch. They close fine, but just won't open. Hopefully someone will offer advice for your issue that will work for mine.

You might check your screws also. See if they're loose. I have that problem with it sticking also, though it's intermittent. It's such a pain in the *** to close them.

I had the problem with the sunroofs opening. They were sticking when I pushed the switch to open. To fix problem I did the following:
When I had them open I cleaned the tracks and area around tracks. I sprayed with a silicone. WD40 would attrack more dirt. Then I cleaned the rubber and sprayed the rubber with the silicone.
This fixed the sticking problem.
Have not had the problem since last spring.
Have not messed with the screws or had problems with the tracking.

And they say the british have no sense of humor! I've been having elec curiousities like that since I bought my 1st british car (a'60 bug eyed sprite) back in 1970. I'm on about my 6th 0r 7thjag-rover-triumph. still get a laugh out of the strange electrical mysteries.

my sunroof woes on my 96 disco were broken trac issues .

If you don't keep the track clean and lubed, they will fail, as will anyone elses sun roof.

So I should clean the tracks very well and spray them with a silicone? What about the screws that hold the glass to the mounts? How do I tighten them?

Keep everything clean and lubed, also don't go wheeling with the sun roof open, they can't take the bouncing and will fail quickly.
