Default Suspension advice Heavy Duty

Hey guys, I need some suspension direction. My current plan is to get the Old Man OME HD kit with the shocks, 2” spacers on the back and 1” spacers on the front. I’m going with the HD because I will tow some and most of the time I will have this loaded down with a RTT and lots of various overlanding gear. I want the 2 inch spacers in the back to give it the Bulldog stance so when it squats it will be level. And I want to fit UP TO 33 inch tires.
Of course I’ll get extended brake lines.
I currently have a Tom Woods front shaft.
So my question is, what are the suspension components should I start looking for and gather to replace once I do this lift? I need to shore up the rest of the suspension to ensure things are working together properly.

Also, Lucky eight terra firma HD kit that includes heavy duty front and rear springs with plus 3in prosport shocks this kit will lift your truck to 4in over factory ride hight. To handle the extra lift this kit also includes rear spring perch kit, adjustable panhard bar, HD extended sway bar links, extended watts links, extended stainless steel brake lines and a HD Tom woods front double cardon drive shaft. (I can install the extra tom woods shafting the 2003 discovery for a nice upgrade upgrade). If I Go with this kit I guess I just need to buy the Spacers as well.

Or, I can stay with the 2” medium duty OME springs I’ve got now and add the 2” spacers to the rear and 1” spacer in the front? Oooor just a 1” spacer to the rear only? I just want to perch up the rear end to allow for level riding after the squat under load.

what’s your thoughts?

I’ve included a picture of the medium duty springs with a trailer attached. About 250lbs of tongue weight. This is too much squat for my liking. I want to eliminate this as much as possible.

I have been running the terra firms 3” HD for a few years now. My truck is heavy. Always heavy. Custom steel roof rack, front and rear steel bumpers with winches at both ends, custom steel rock sliders with steps, rear drawer system always filled with tools, parts and recovery gear. I tow often, little trailer plus loaded car trailers. I feel after a couple of years it has sagged a bit. When fully loaded with 4 full size beer drinkers it drops some more. I’m going to add rear spacers as I still like the ride. If money isn’t an issue I would recommend the arb over the terra but all in all the terra isn’t bad.

Thank you brother. This is very much how my truck will be outfitted and used. Bumpers, winch, rack, tent, recovery gear, tools, fridge and more gear.people. I’ve seen the OME with the spacers I’ve described. I love the stance and it squats level under a lot of load.. But OME doesn’t come with the suspension parts like the TF. TF is more of a complete kit. Think I could go ahead and add the spacers to start with the TF?…so I don’t have to do it later?

Heavy duty springs with spacers. Before and after. This is the results I want. The shop that did this is in Cali but he told me they use the OME HD with the spacers.

AND If I get up there close to 33” tires, am I going to require a regear? That’s my other issue. I don’t really want to regear.

The TF kit is 4” lift as well. Probably not wise to go spacers on anything over the 3”. I’m starting to get a little clarity.
id still love to know what other components I need to replace and upgrade if I just do the 3” lift and spacers. I’m a suspension newby if you haven’t noticed.

RTE springs with air bag helpers in the rear and maybe a 1" spacer if needed. Shocks either Bilstien 7100s or cheaper the TF 4 way adjustable ones have held up pretty good for me. Simon at RTE will be able to help dial in which springs will work best for you.

I have not re-geared on either of my trucks, the 265s do alright and the 285s are fine around town but get it trying to go up 70 into the mountains and it's a dogfight I lose every time. I have a defender 1.4 t-case I plan on swapping in if I ever get motivated and that should help a little bit.

You owe it to yourself to speak to Simon Butcher of RTE Fab. He is a wealth of knowledge and can give you some holistic guidance.

Yup, I’ve heard that twice now. I’ll exercise a little patience and give him a call.

+1 on Simon at RTE. A couple of years ago I bought a complete 4.5 in lift from Simon. I bought just about everything he makes for a D2. It's good quality and very rugged. The truck rides very nice. I'm on steels wheels and 33 in Toyos at the moment and it works very well. I'm going to 35's soon, so Im ordering the gearing from Ashcroft.
