If you lived in the Southwest you would probably think its worth the hassle lol.

The difference between my LR3's is staggering in AC output. One has rear air one does not

Yeah a D2 with rear AC is so much better at cooling & moving the hot air around! I have dual AC in my 99 D2 and it can blow right in your face if you are sitting in the back. Without it it takes a while to feel cool in the back of a normal D2.
