Switched from Dex now have a leak. Great
What is that about letting sleeping dogs lye? So temps were great on this truck, but figured I would be rid of Dex and fix the throttle body heater. Proper flush done and to Peak 50/50. Well I'd be damned if some preventative maint didn't once again bite me in the butt.
The day after, I noticed some coolant under the truck. I figured it might be for wining down from when I flushed it, or the overflow from the bleed screw. Nope. Today I noticed a big puddle after a drive. Dug in and sound the source. Looks like it is coming from under the plastic piece at the top. It is not the plastic overflow nipple or anything visible. I took pit the screw it was weeping from and it was flowing good out of there. Must be a crack under it somewhere, although no clue how it happened.
Would the 00 radiator fit? It looks the same, but the 04 looks to have a sensor where the 00 has a drain plug. I honestly don't have the time to do a swap right now. I know new ones are not a lot of coin, but still a pain to do. Maybe some k-seal as a band aid until I put a new rad in. Throw some in, let it get the leak, empty system and refill. Not worried about plugging. I know many who used it. Also, I would be replacing rad and stat regardless.

Seriously bud.... Start with a beautiful and perfectly good truck, do all the things supposedly good for the truck, and open up Pandora's box. Did I mention that after switching to T6 she leaks now too? The old one did the same, and leaks slow down when I go to 0w40 M1 for the winter.
For all the Dex haters...including you....I get the reasons, but after 9 years and 76k I didn't see any issues. Should have left well enough alone yet again.
On the plus side...at least my trans filter and fluid change didn't cause bigger issues...yet. Although, it did feel smoother before. Oh well...nothing like messing up a nice truck.

Not sure as I don't know where the actual leak is, and no way to see in. I tried a slightly bigger screw, put some thread tape in it and duct tape over the hole, but still leaked. I'm assuming even if I plugged that screw hole, it would leak inside there. I looked at an old rad I have from the last one, but can't tell if I just sealed the hole if that would work without knowing what the actual insides of the plastic piece look like.
Just pour it in the hole?
your about the 6 or 7 person who has had that exact leak posted in the last 6-months.
I would have to agree with Sav. let it cool tap the hole and insert a plastic screw with JB Weld and let it set.
