Well it was towed to Aristocrat on Thursday for a Friday appt. No work yet.
I did check the compression in the other bank; 90 on #1, low. While someone else is cranking one can hold their hand over the tailpipe and feel pushing and pulling. A paper towel placed over the intake demonstrates the same. Somehow the timing is off. I guess timing chain or wood drift key failure.
I'll report back once I heard more.

You must have deep pockets to pay a dealership. Kevin at aristocrat is backed up and you will be lucku to get it looked at on Monday.

( possible convoy out to turtle creek orv park someday with the rest of the gang)????

The equation is multi-variable. Mainly, I do not have the time nor gumption to tear the front of the motor off, deal with the details and reassemble.

Received the call from Aristocrat -
As expected, the timing chain let go. They are stating there was likely piston/valve interference, hence zero compression on several cylinders. Their recommendation is a reman engine.

Not good. How many miles on it? I haven't seen too many posts about broken timing chains. I saw a post about it happening when the water pump bolts were put in the wrong holes, leaving the long ones sticking in to hit the chain, but that was the only one. Is there a typical life expectancy for the chain?

Regarding the engine, it is an interference design so if the chain broke while it was running then there are some bent valves and smiles on some of the pistons. You can pull the heads and replace the damaged pistons with the engine in the truck but if you are paying someone to do it they likely wouldn't even try that approach. Did they give you a price to replace the engine? I'll bet it was a bit steep.

46k miles. The truck looks and ran like new until this incident.
Always serviced at LR before I purchased at 38k. Since, I have performed all maintenance. Damn shame.
The dealership will need to source an engine just like I would have to. Thinking about Great Plains Rovers long block and letting GPR do the swap.
Anyone have any experience with them?

I didn't think these engines were interference?

Either way, Unless the pistons were severely damaged, I would imagine that replacing the heads would suffice.
