Default T-stat, 180?

I replaced the thermostat a couple years ago and am due for my coolant flush.

How do I know if I have a regular or 180 t-stat? I am only running stock gauges (yeah, I know, I should get one of those gadgets because the stock gauge is not accurate.) The stat housing is tan-ish colored. Is there a different housing color or a stamp on the housing to show this is a 180?

Thanks, David

On my motorad 180, if you look down into the vertical top pipe, "180" is stamped on the little copper-colored center area.

Also, my motorad has "motorad" molded into the side

Got my last one from the dealer. Probably not stamped with motorad, but I will check tomorrow. Thanks!

The genuine Land Rover 180-deg thermostat is grey instead of the Motorad's white version.

I assumed he was asking how to tell the difference between the normal colored stats?

I would wonder if 180 to Motorad means start to open or fully open. On many English vehicles it is fully open.

That would help to explain why I run so cool most of the time.

Well, you are a pretty cool dude to start with. I was meaning that the Motorads would run hotter than the real Land Rover stat. Today in the low 80's my D1 wth a 180F stat ran 178 like it was painted on the scanner. Only when I idled for a long period with AC on did it get to 189F. But my rad reads 25 degrees difference top to bottom (used to be 5), so I'm going to replace it, or have it rodded again. I let it dry out when taking too long to do HG work.
