Default tachometer

I have a 98 disco. The tachometer is not working. I checked the fuse panel and all looks well there.
I have checked over the Rave manual and can't locate any reference to where the sensing is done (maybe the engine computer?)
Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot?

Check the back of the alternator. There are to small wires (one is a spade terminal) that may be loose.

If that is OK, then go have your alternator tested, it may be failing which is common.

The tach gets its signal from the alternator, when the alt goes bad the tach will stop working.
