Default Tail door lock actuator replacement

How big of a pain is it to replace the tail door lock actuator? I know in the passenger doors the recommended procedure is to remove the door frame (no thanks), is the tail door easier? Mine isn’t locking with the central locking and I have access to a cheap replacement actuator.

You need to remove the rear door panel which you can break the plastic studs so have extra of those. Otherwise it’s pretty straight forward. The passenger door actuators are not really that bad. Just have the windows rolled all the way up and remove all the window frame bolts. Have some one slowly raise the frame in the door high enough so you can remove the actuator. Removing the wire links is attached to the actuator is the pain in my opinion.

I just did this a month ago. Not difficult. Zski128 is correct you will definitely break some plastic fasteners as you remove the inner panel. Have extra on hand. Good luck.

Are the plastic fasteners for the tail door the same fasteners as for the passenger door cards? I have lots of those on hand.

No they are different. They slot into the fiber board backer. Best to used a trim removal tool if you have one and go slow.
