Default Tail light swap/upgrade

Gents,

I have a 2001 D2 needing a new drivers side rear upper tail light due to a crack in the housing and now the marker lights front and rear as well as the license plate light do not work. Keeps blowing fuses.

I have in my possession a pair of 03-04 rear upper tail lights

I have searched this forum as well as others for anyone who has done this and haven't gotten a lot of traction.

I know these are not plug and play but thanks to Zuke, I have the pigtails and know how to solder. I'd also add the reverse lights to my roof rack for simplicity.

However, I was wondering if anyone has taken this step before me that could shed some light on the swap I'm considering.

If this winds up being too big of a deal, I'll gladly swap someone for the 99-02 tail lights.

Thanks!

Yea, put originals back in.

There are rovers in the yards around you, you just have to find them.

99-02 have better rear lens IMHO vs 03-04 which are delicate and crack easy.

If you know how to wire stuff you'll have no problem. Run the reverse light circuit down to your bumper (that's where they are on the 03-04), and run the turn signal up from the bumper to the tail light. They just flip flopped them between old and facelifted. Be sure to use heat shrink; you're going to get a lot of moisture there.

Edit: while you're at it, throw some LEDs in your reverse lamps. Especially having the tinted lamps that your truck has, that will help you out a lot.
