Very true, my original plan was 1 week. That went to two weeks because of the cam and the shop doing the heads was backed up. Then to three weeks because of the springs. The springs shoud be delivered to the shop Wednesday.
I almost ordered the kit (lifters, springs, retainers and seals) when I ordered the cam. I figured I could save some $$ by just getting the lifters. That worked out really well. If I did order it, I would have saved 1 week and some $$.

Didn't get as much done as I wanted to this weekend.
I installed the water pump, front cover, timing chain/gears and oil pump.
I also got the oil pickup installed.
I ordered some brass shim stock (.016 & .032) just in case I need to ship the rocker pedestals.
I am using .020 & 1/16" (.0625) brass rod to use as lifter preload go/no go gauges.

Springs were delivered to the shop yesterday afternoon. Got a call today, the spring pocket needs ro be machined from 1.2" to 1.4" and down 0.065" to get a seat height of 1.7". More $$. We said that SBC springs would work with the crower retainers and wouldn't require machining. He was concerend about going down in the seat because he has had experience of hitting water jackets on alum heads.
I told him I will take the chance. I decided to go with the crower springs. If I ever had a issue, Crower couldn't say it was becuase I used another spring.

I think I remember someone here using Crower cam, springs and retainers not too far back and don't remember any mention of machine work for the springs...... Can't remember who though?

The 50229 cam and lifters are bolt in. WHen I found out I needed new springs, I decided to get the Crower springs. I didn't realize that the spring seated needed to b modified. If I know that I would have bought stock springs.
I also found a posting about building a stroker and they used Crane 99849 small block Chevy springs. Affordable Aluminum Buick / Rover Stroker Motor, by Kurt Schley These springs are the same OD as the stock rover springs.

Just got off the phone with the shop. He wanted to confirm what I wanted to do. After talking with him some more, I changed my mind. I am going with chevy small block springs. They will have a 94 lb seat pressure. More than the stock springs 76 lbs, but less than the Crower springs, 104 lbs.
Its $190 cheaper to go with the chevy springs. Crower Springs and retainers ($171 - 15% restock fee) and save $80 on the spring seat machining. The springs are only $36.
