Default Tell Me I'm Wrong:

Okay I had a good friend drop of his 03 D2 I've worked on in the past. His power steering pump is toast. So I went online to search for a new unit and I came across something I'm rather curious about.

The PS pump above is from a 2006 LR LR3 and I can't help but see that it almost mounts exactly the same way as our D2 units! Yes the pulley doesn't come off, but the pulley has holes in it to allow access to the 3 bolts. I also notice the LR3 unit has threaded holes, but that could easily be fixed. If the mounting pattern is the same, and the pulley is close enough I don't see why it wouldn't work in our D2's. The high pressure line has the same M16x1.5 thread, and the lower low pressure hose also appears the same. The config of the lines from the pictures I've seen looks identical. I've found a few online for as low as 50.00, and I'm honestly thinking of buying one to test out. If it doesn't work I'll just have a spare for the wife's LR3.

As you can see they're very similar! It would certainly be nice to have a unit that doesn't die every 20K and **** itself to death! The D2 unit has holes that aren't threaded because the 2 outer bolts secure to the back threaded part of the aluminum accessory bracket vs the LR3 unit which apparently doesn't have a threaded back part. So if the LR3 doesn't fit in the notches like the D2 unit it might require modifications to the aluminum accessory bracket. I have a parts truck so I can certainly chop that bracket up to see if I can get it to mount up.

That would be quite a thing, good luck! Mine has already started screaming after 10k, maybe getting the spendy Hobourn one from AB will be better!? Anyway, hope the LR3 pump works!

As long as the 3 holes have the same spacing, the pulley is similar in size, I'm pretty confident I can make it work. Going to order one in the next few days and see how it goes.

It's ordered so we'll see sometime next week. I'll have the spare bracket off the parts truck to mess with as well

Thanks @Best4x4 ! I watching this with much interest.
The Chewbacca noise is really embarrassing on my 2nd PSP (it was used and installed 2 years ago) so next up might be my 3rd pump install.

Only issue I've noticed was the pulley being 6 vs 7 Grove, but I am working on that issue. Will keep ya'll updated.
