Default temp gauge and glow plug problems

hi i have just finished putting a 260hp merc om605 in my disco 2 removing the td5.the ecu is still fitted and most things work but the temp gauge dose not.when you turn on the ignition the gauge goes up then down and the overheat red light comes on, i also think this is why there is no power to the glow plugs as it thinks the engine is hot. i have the td5 temp sensor wired in . any help with this would be good

Congratulations on achieving the project. It sounds like an earth problem or an ECU incompatability as far as the temp gauge as you are using the TD5 sender/sensor with the D2 dash gauge. Re the glow plugs, both are 5 cylinder engines and I assume the same voltage glow plugs. Are you using the TD5 ECU for the glow plugs or the Merc ECU. It does sound like the issues are both linked as maybe the temp is saying to the ECU that it's hot enough and therefore no power is demanded or needed to the glow plugs. Have you bench tested the temp sender and also shorted the pins on it to see whether rises to hot on the gauge?
