Temperature spike in negative degree weather
Hi all, recently after i let my car warm up it gets a temperature spike up to the red zone after about a minute of driving then returns back down to the middle as normal. I live in Grand Forks, ND the coldest city in the US. Most days it doesn't even get above 0. Is it possible that it is over heating or do i just have a faulty thermostat? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks - Aaron
Definitely buy an ultra gauge, If you replace your t stat , look into the Grey ones vs the tan, made my rig 12 degress cooler. I blew my headgaskets by not having an aftermarket temp gauge, went into the red for a sec and done sauce......
Be careful. You are in danger of frying your car.
Remember the in dash temp gauge is pretty much an on/off display.
Is the coolant mix correct?
Something could very much have been stuck.
It could be over heating 'and' you have a faulty thermostat. Instead of 'or'.
As mentioned one over heating incident can lunch things. Get a real time temp gauge. So at least you can shut it off if it does climb.
Read around here for what are acceptable temps. Mine are between 194-199, on most days, journeys, regardless of outside temp.
Good luck.
