Test for TC?
Hi All,
My 2001 Disco seems to be acting different this winter up here in Anchorage. I have the same winter tires on as last year. Nokian Hakkapeliitta with studs (no screwing around on Anchorage roads in the winter).
Anyway, I feel like I am getting more slip and less grip than I did last year. Corners and turn are fine. It is the starting from a stop where I feel like I'm not gripping like I should. The TC light is coming on and I can hear it working (the modulator?). But the Disco isn't popping off the line like I remember last year and I'm almost sure I can hear some wheel spin. I've denied believing it because I can't believe I could get the wheels to spin with the tires, studs, and TC.
If you all remember, I had a Three Amigos issue after coming down a hill.https://landroverforums.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=32866. The dealership reset the fault and I thought everything was fine. I'm starting to suspect maybe things aren't.
Is there any way to test whether the TC system is working the way it is supposed to? I'd hate to get into a sticky situation this summer in the bush and have my four-by-four-by-far not operating as it was designed to.
Thanks!

If I am correct if the three amigos are there then you will not have the traction control working either. I had a friend who went to shop to get his three amigos fixed, paid for it and they were gone, only to realize they put electrical tape over the lights to make them go away. I am not saying this is your issue but if they are gone you should see the traction control at least try to modulate the slippage.
Do as Nite Train said though and try a hill to see what happens.

Its the tires...tires wear as you drive and brand new tires from a year ago with 10,000 miles on them will not grip like they used to.
Even with 5,000 miles on the studs they will not grip as well.
If you ran them in the summer then you basically have a all season tire now.

Check for tire air pressure first, run them around 38 to 40 pounds all the way around. And has already been mentioned, how are your brake pads, if warn or glazed you will not have the traction you want, what about your brake fluid, when did you last flush itout, if old and or slightly burned, your brakes won't be as responsive either.
Even if you don't have a check engine light on, go check for codes, you may have a 1590, sleeper ABS code lurking in your system.
Let us know what you find.
