TF 2" Coil Lift
I have my front end apart for the Terrafirma 2" Coil lift and I'm looking for feedback on the use of the supplied spring retainers. They appear to be deeper than the originals and I was hoping someone could tell me if they are needed or not. I don't want the front end higher than it should be and the old retainers have the brake lines bolted to them. Rovers North said it doesn't really matter if I use the new retainers or not. Does anyone have experience putting in this kit who can provide some feedback?
Thanks,
Thanks,
I might be misunderstanding. But the retainers with the kit are for the rear that's why they're flat. The front retainers have a notch in them that the spring needs to fit into. If you'll look the replacements are flat.
I replaced the rear because if you have a new part then why not?

The existing front retainers have about a half inch of drop. They are not completely flat. I haven't taken the rear apart yet but the retainers that came with the kit appear to be the same as the current rear retainers. The flat rubber spacer, I was told, can be fitted for a smoother ride in the front as the old rubber retaining ring is getting replaced with TF heavy duty rings. The shock towers are getting replaced with HD TF galvanized towers.
Thanks for the input.

Instead of retainer, are you referring to the spring seat on the bottom? Looks like a top hat? If so, no don't use that in the front. It comes in the kit for those converting to air springs. The Discovery 2 uses a "screw on" style spring for the front, it's not flat.

Yes, the spring seats. I guess the confusion came in because they were packaged with the front springs not the rear. I plan to replace the rear spring seats and use the nylon/plastic ring in the rear as well for dampening. There is a video on you tube that walks through the entire install. That is what they did.

Thanks for the order!
The kit comes prepackaged from Terrafirma so it's not unusual for them to throw everything in whatever box they choose.
Ha! That's funny. We talked on the phone. It makes sense since I watched the video and have everything apart. The footage was an excellent production and those HD TF Shock Towers are choice! havinf a few issues with some seized up nuts but this too shall pass. What I wouldn't give for a plumbers torch right now.
