What ever that something was, it probably wasn't rational.

I'm "40 years young" and I've owned probably half as many vehicles, and I haven't truly "loved" one of them until my L/R!

Like many of the posts above have said...take your time to find the right one for you. You'll find there's often a trade-off; in "most" cases, you'll get what you pay for.

Something happened just today that sums it up perfectly (for me):

I was outside, "bonnet up/head under" when a neighbor drove by and coyly asked "are you having fun yet?" to which I replied "actually...I am!", to which she replied "you know what...I thought so, you can tell you're having good time under there!".

It doesn't get any better than that...it really doesn't!

In fact, 4/5 doctors surveyed recommend them to their patients.

After reading so many comments about how uncommon these trucks are I just had to add a comment. I live in a smallish town (30,000 pop), and had never paid attention to how many DII's there are in town. I have counted 8 in White Gold, the same color as mine. A total of about 25 DII's, 15 DI's, 3 LR3's and a dozen or so RR's. So much for being unique in the worlds orthopedic capital.

If you want the same thing same stuff as everyone else, go buy a ford or dodge! If you want to own something you can look at every single day and know that not everyone has something like it, get a discovery!!

That is just my 2 cents! Thanks for listening to me ramble on and I hope you enjoyed it!

Regards,
so you would hate going to an event with 80 land rovers then

Absolutely not!!!! Thats an event that I signed up for!! Come on, I think you get it, but there is always someone that wants to be difficult ! I just like owning stuff that not everyone has.. I would love to attend an event with people that share the same passion as me, that would be a lot of fun. I do attend Porsche events and I go out to Bike night every once and a while when the old lady is up to it!

You get the point, need I say more?

Regards,

Default Nothing compares.

I bought mine 3 years ago with 64k on it. I have had no major problems. I'll share a little story with you. I worked on a drilling rig and wanted an offroad capable SUV. I always wanted a discovery ever since it came out. Long story short, we had a really bad lease road on the location we were transporting and rigging up at. It was nasty going in but everyone made it. However after numerous 18 wheelers were drug in by a bulldozer the road was horrible. All of those guys made fun of me for having a foreign vehicle. they said " that foreign POS will never make it." These guys had fords chevys and such with big mud tires. When we went to lunch everyone who tried to leave location got stuck. They were spinning one front tire and one rear. Remember many of these guys had big mud tires and lifts. Here I come in my stock 2002 Discovery II with general grabber UHP performance street tires. Guess what? It was the only truck that could make it on and off location. I pulled them all out. The guy talking the most trash and bashing my Disco got his. I pulled him out, drove my Disco right into the spot he was stuck in, threw my hands up at him, put it in drive and out I came with no drama. These things wil go anywhere, esecially uneven terrain like angled ditch crossing where you go in 1 wheel at a time. every other truck will spin one front tire and one rear when it gets half way through the ditch and they lose traction while the two tires with traction do nothing. I love coming out of ditches on 3 wheels and watch some guy in a Z71 try to do the same thing. The traction control is the next best thing to having front, rear and center lockers. Trust me, all it takes is you crawling over a deep ditch or some rocks or uneven uphill terrain for you to see that these just can't be beat by any other SUV in their class. Mine now has 110k and no major troubles except a power window motor and the 100k mile front driveshaft issue. Re-bulding it is cheap. Parts are only $70 for 3 sets of u joints (precision #344) and the centering ball (precision # 617) from rock auto parts.com

But thats just one.

Exactly!

Also. Just to add some insight from a very new rover owner. If you follow whAt is said in these forums in regards to upkeep and steps to insure proper drivability you'll be fine.
I am mildly mechanicaly inclined and am loving every second of roving while learning to maintain as I go. if you're lusting after one as I was just go for it and enjoy the awkward beauty of the machines and the world if **** she'll throw at you.

Pretty much like dating a super hot chick! Every other guy see yu with her and wants to be you, but little do they know she's a total pain In the *** and totally worth it.
