Default Thermostat Issues

My 2000 Disco died this am on the way to work. Water pump was replaced about a year ago but t-state was not. Heater core was replaced 6m ago.

My tuck as always leaked coolant and continues to do so, I have been getting cold air through the heater for 20mins or so until engine gets warmed up and sometimes I will get a series of hesitations. Every now and then truck will begin to over heat as well.

Truck overheated this morning and now will not start. It almost turns over but wont fire up. My thought is the t-stat. Can a bad t-state prevent truck from starting?

Not sure what the issue is would appreciate some help

Thanks!

1. Stat won't keep truck from turning over. If it turns over several times, but no start, could be iginition or fuel. You can take an old (or new) plug, remove a plug wire, attach (don't have to pull plug from engine), lay on mainfold, crank, check for spark. No spark, look at crank position sensor. Good spark, look at fuel pump and regulator.

2. If won't turn over, weak battery?

3. If gross overheat, and won't turn over - engine frozen? Let's hope not.

4. When you say overheat, what position was heat gauge? Did light come on? What position on gauge was heat normally running? Is coolant container full to center line? Low coolant makes no heat, and overheat engine. Do you check fluids weekly? After all, it is British...

Your truck always leaks coolant and you finally figured you have a problem.
So what are you going to check and do and be specific?
