Thoughts on a strange issue-connected?
Yesterday (June 13-Friday-yeah the 13th) driving to church to do some work as I'd been at Cub Scout Day camp for a week as a leader, some strange things happened. Truck is a '00 with 312K on the odometer. 15K on a new long block, truck usually runs great, very dependable. Drove back and forth for 5 days 60+ miles to camp and back, rainy, sunny weather, no problems. Friday on the way to church, 40 mph, engine "coughed", just like it missed for a second, then all was fine. Continued my drive, at a light, the "M" and "S" started to flash, along with the "D", so I'm in limp mode. Pull over into a parking lot, shut it off. Gave it a few minutes, restarted, all good. Continue to church (about 4 more miles), did my work, and out to head home about 35 minutes later. No start, cranked fine, just dash lights, but no start. Call the wife and told her I'd be delayed, and gave it one more chance to start. And it did, like normal. Left the parking lot and made it about 3 miles to a large, multilane intersection and it dies, and no restart. Numerous tries. Finally rode home on the wrecker rolloff, and dropped off at my indy mechanic who knows my Discovery very up close and personal.
Weather on Friday while it was parked at camp was rainy, with it sitting in a real downpour for about an hour.
So, thoughts were to look or to start?
Thanks to all for your consideration.

CPS will be the direction to go.
with Extinct and Richard Gallant responses, why go any other direction?
Thank you gentlemen, I will keep you posted as to progress!

Well, my great indy shop ran a scan and found that the problem was the CPS, as well as some minor corrosion on connections at the ECM under the dash. Cleaned all the connections and went ahead and changed the CPS (as it had been changed 3 years ago). In addition, my mechanic found some suspicious connections from the blower for the HVAC that were in need of changing. The connectors were after market, rather cooked and somewhat melted, (possibly done by owner #2, a kid who just used the truck to haul around his ridiculously large audio system.) He replaced them with proper connections and solved an issue that could have been a disaster.
All fixed and running strong. Thanks for all the info!
