Default To "Throttle Body Heater Plate" or to "Bypass", that is the question!

Hi Guys!

Had a major leak prob these past days that led me to replace the old Thermostat; days earlier I had received my new Throttle Body Heater Plate (TBHP) to replace it since there was a leakage there, but the Thermostat leak won in urgency so had to take care of that first. After replacing the Thermostat I did attempt to replace the TBHP, but I had to order a 5.5 mm wrench to loosen the screws so had to put that project aside for a couple days. The wrench arrived, but the screws are so tightly screwed are soldered and rusty that it has been impossible to loosen them up. I even took apart the Throttle Body to better access the TBHP, but not even with W40 & a vise grip am I able to loose those suckers up! I'm giving up, so much that I'm seriously thinking in bypassing the damn thing (I live in SoFla) and have initiated the return of the unused part and researching the 'Brass U-Shape Hose 1" Connector' that someone once recommended me to use before in this forum. I've finally arrived at a place where it is being sold for $9.99, but the shipping is almost $14.00! ...so I am here thinking; each plastic tubing ends with a rubber hose attached to them and which are connected to each tube that comes out of the TBHP; couldn't I just connect the end of one of those hoses to the other plastic tube, thus making the bypass with what I got, instead of spending money on that 'Brass U-Shape Hose 1" Connector', besides, isn't that 1" connector bigger that the hoses attached to the plastic tubing? Your prompt feedback and insights will be very much appreciated, also cuz I've being using my wife's car. I have also attached a couple of pics so you guys may see what I am up against! ;-]#

Yes you can connect the two hoses and be done with it
Spare piece of 1/4" copper will do the trick. Bend it and attach the hoses

WOW, I have never seen one that corroded up before. Is it the salt in the air of the sunshine state?

But, to answer your question, I think you would have to bend one of the hoses too much to make it work. I think that is why the U connector. But I haven't done this so I will let someone with more experience chime in.

Bypass it man. You WILL have to fix it again if you don't. It takes 5 minutes to DL it and it's done forever.

Thanks, will go down the path of a 1/4" copper tube then.

As per the corrosion, dunno if it has been just the Sunshine state, it's been like that since I've had it, any hint on how to clean it up? or make it look "presentable"? ;-]#

Thanks again!

I just ran a new hose from the block to the bottle to bypass mine, no problems, no copper piece to leak. Just 1 simple hose that I had laying around, like $1.50 from parts store.

Can you tell me exactly what type of hose you used for your fix? Thanks!
