Default Throttle body AND water pump

I just spoke to a representative at the dealership today and they told me that they found the coolant leak. He said there was a problem with the throttle body and the water pump and that they both needed to be replaced. The problem is the qoute that he gave me was $1000. Is this relatively a good price? I'm guessing it's probably not because I'm dealing with the stealership here..... How difficult is it to replace the 2 pieces yourself? I'm a novice (at best) mechanic... How much would those pieces cost me? Am I better off just having them fix it? I was told that I wouldn't have any issues driving it but, that the coolant leak would eventually get worst!

Thanks for all your help in advance

JC

The throttle body heater leak is VERY common and is a cheap fix.
As for the water pump, a LR pump is expensive, $400-$500, plus labor. Which at a dealership is expensive, over $100 per hour and the water pump bills out just over one hour, so they will bill you for 1.5 hours for a 1.2 hour job.
The throttle body is a.5 billable hourrepair, so thier pricing is on par, I would not pay that...but it is on par.

I would take it to another shop and have them replace the water pump and then fix the throttle body heater plate myself.

Here is the leaking throttle body gasket.

You can replace just he gasket.

Find a indie shop that will install your parts and they just charge you labor.

Always glad to help, I also have one of those kind of shops. For a flat $60 in cash they will fix anything.
