Default Tick Tick Tick...tickticktick

Video 1 shows the slow tick that started today.

Video 2 shows the faster tick once I made it home a few miles later.

Tick is audible at idle and goes away over 1,000rpm. The engine runs just fine with no hiccups. There is an exhaust leak. ‘03 Discovery 2 with 158,500mi. Hmm...

Sounds like a head gasket leak, especially when you moved the phone/camera to the passenger side. Even seemed a little faster of a tick than our 03 with slipped liners.

Get a small mirror and look along the lower edge of the head, where it meets the block, and look for dark areas where there is absences of head gasket material.

Our 03 blew the head gaskets, though we had the liner tick prior to that. But the head gasket leak/tick sounded very similar to your tick.

Good luck.

Brian.

It is not there at cold startup. Once operating temp is reached, it starts back up but very quiet. It gets louder the more it is driven. Is that along the same lines yours was?

Yes, ours was kind of a chirping sound (especially when cold)...very minimal...before it went full blown head gasket leaking sound when at operating temperatures. I could visibly see the material was blown out along head.
