Ticking noise need some help
Alright guys I know this is going to be hard to do online but thought I would post it anyways. So I have 84K miles and been running very well. The last few days it started making a ticking noise it comes from underneath its hard to pin point the exact location but it is defiantly in the engine. So if I had to guess I would say either of these items;
Oil Pump
Rod (I really hope it is not)
Maybe timing chain or pulley
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
J

With the engine off and cold tap on the cats with a block of wood or a small hammer, if they rattle you need new ones and that is your problem.
If it is a leaking exhaust mainfold that is also a easy one.
Tighten the bolts and then look for cracks.

I fell pretty confident it is not the exhaust, I just got through laying under it for some time it appears to be coming from the bottom of the engine at the very front. I am starting fear it maybe a rod... Is there anything else like the timing pulley?
if you think your hearing a knocking noise from the front of the engine you are..
It is probably the oil pump getting ready to fail
A quick check get a piece of lamp cord dip it into the oil dipstick tube and then let it drip onto a black piece of cardboard,
go into the sun and if you have a magnifying glass, use it to inspect the oil for metallic particles,
if you see any then you would be well advised to have the front cover removed and the oil pump gears inspected and have one of the alignment pins sanded down to better fit the front cover , note you may need a new front cover and oil pump gears and if you have over 100k miles a new timing chain and gears
