Ticking noise when deccelerating
I can only hear it when my foot is off the gas and off the brake. As the vehicle slows down the ticking slows down as well. It is dependent on vehicle speed, not RPM and you only hear it when the drive line is not under load.
U-joints/cv joints?
Cracked Flex Plate?
Because it is directly tied to speed and not engine RPM I am leaning towards a drive line issue.
Thank you!!!!

Oops, wrong Disco - you don't have easy to grease CV joints. It can be done, the RAVE shows a process, but you dismantle the unit (high labor $). Could also be related to an ABS sensor. See attached diagrams of your truck CV joints and such.
Thank you.
If it was the ABS wouldn't the noise continue when you were on the gas?
It seems to go away with any load on the drive train (either giving it gas or applying the brakes).
I am sorry I did not mention - it is a 2003 (just OUT of the bad VIN range).

What driveline components did you eliminate before you discovered it was the transfer case....or how did you discover it WAS the tcase?
Assuming it only makes the noise when the wheels turn I guess we might have to put it up on the lift and let it run in D a bit to source the noise. It doesn't do it unless the car is moving with no load on the drivetrain. I need to see if it does it with the car in neutral...
thanks!

Here's a video with sound of the transfer case with inspection plate off, you will note it is spinning most of the time. If you have truck on rack, could listen, and use mechanic stethoscope to listen to suspect parts (safely).
