Default Timing Belt replacement

My 2001 Disco 2 has 198,000 miles, should I be thinking of replacing timing belt?

@Mando It is chain on these, it is a fair bit of work to get it replaced. Generally, unless you have used crappy oil or had really long oil change intervals they last pretty much forever

They last forever in the sense that they don’t break. They do stretch though, and lose power from the stretch as the valve timing gets worse. But, as Richard says, it’s generally not worth disassembling just to replace it. You should pretty much always replace it when you have the front cover off.

Also I'll add it's worth it to buy actual Land Rover replacement gears. The Allmakes replacement gears I got a couple years ago were absolute garbage quality compared to the originals. Something this critical deserves to be a genuine part IMO.

Or keep your original LR gears.
