I am rebuilding my 1996 Discovery engine. I also noted the deflection in the timing chain. I have 160,000 mis. on 4.0 (WYF12 HRC 2411) engine. Would a new chain help? Should the gears also be replaced if a chain is needed? I have some other issues: Testing the lifters and a simply way to test and clean the injectors. I alway appreciate a word of advice from all.

In the future do not add onto a 3 year old thread, start your own in the D1 section.
As for you question, at that mileage you should replace the chain set as well as rebuild your oil pump.
Do you have any fault code numbers to justify the extra testing you are asking about, if not, leave it alone.
