Timing chain oil? Cam bolt loctite? Front cover gasket application?
Hi everyone,
I have a few questions:
Do the new timing chain and gears go on without any oil, grease, lube, etc?
Should I use loctite on the cam bolt?
How exactly should the front cover gasket get applied? Just tacking and torque or a thin layer or high oil resistance silicone on both sides of the gaskets, finger tight, wait 24 hours, torque?
Thank you

The service manual doesn't specify any Loctite, nor does the engine rebuild manual.
I follow the service manual on this one, which doesn't specify coating the gasket with anything.
Thank you, do you install the bolts in the front cover without anything either? I already put the water pump on it and I used black silicone for that. Someone said to do that and someone else said it could get into the cooling system and cause problems, but I’m not sure if that’s correct - it’s supposedly able to take temperatures much higher than the water. I used it on the water pump gasket too. I’ve learned that everyone does things differently with their motors!

99% of the time I follow the service manual. If it doesn't call for sealant, I don't use it. If it does, I do.
