tips on a fuel pump
It is time for a fuel pump. Mine had a leak on top in an inaccessible location last year and the best I could do was add some JB weld. I smell gas again from the back and while I am sure I could JB weld it again, such things are not part of the new plan.
Fuel pump is original to the truck. About 155k.
I'm have already found several places to get one but before I take the leap is there anything to look for in terms of seller, brand, flow rate, amperage, etc? I am close to installing my rebuilt 4.6 with deleted SAI and my original engine is a non SAI 4.0. So non SAI is presumably what I need.

Well, I seem to be talking to myself here, so for posterity there are a few different types of fuel pumps and you basically have to look to see which type you have. The one I have is made of unicorn hooves, apparently, and is the most expensive: fuel pump w/o secondary air with evaporative loss/pressure sensor. Looks like Bosch W01331597574, which looks like this on top:
If it's the same part number, than go for it. I went used and it works fine. Only issue was getting to the pump. Here is my thread on it.

Try to get genuine LR part if you can. Comes pre assembled.
Take off the ring, pop the old pump out.
Big risk is grit falling into the tank.
Or pull the pump assy out.
Get the part number off of the metal fuel pump part.
Find one of those and splice it in there.
You may need to change the connectors and do some soldering and
put in new rubber high pressure fuel hose.
Lots of risk and rework.
I would try to find new old stock and use a genuine LR part.
Wow, There are OEM models out now.

None of the new eBay ones would work. Mine has the pressure sensor on top. I finally found one for a little over 200. Since I have already fiddled with my pump one time, the carpet is cut and everything will be ready for its arrival. Sixteen years is a pretty good run for a pump.

A year ago it developed a tiny leak in the plastic 90 that goes to the hose. I JB Welded it with a lucky penny stuck to the top and, again, a year for that kind of jackassed repair isn't bad.

Especially:
Process.
Fit the pump half way in, then put the seal around the fuel tank lip, then you can push the pump the rest of the way down. Install the ring counterclock till tight.
Sucks to learn this process the hard way, and luckily didn't cause a fireball.
