I think we need to do everything here and not just the wind (wind its been going for the last 5 years)
or other new ideas but until we can rely on them we still need oil and coal and nuk power.

Electric cars are not the answer. But neither is drilling for more oil until the other wells run dry.
We just need to change our way of thinking and get onboard with the rest of the world, wind and solar power, clean diesels for cars and trucks and conserving what energy we have.

Not drilling new oil wells until the old ones are used up is not going to help with the demand for oil. Oil companies spend millions each month making sure the current wells are producing as efficiently as possible. An average well only produces about 750-1000 barrels per day. Some wells don't even produce 100. We need these new wells to increase the production of oil. That being said, we also need to develop alternative energy sources. Wind is a great source of power. Places like North Dakota that always have at least a breeze are great places for wind electric generators. I have always said that North Dakota blows, we need to make use of it. I think T. Boone Pickens has some great ideas about energy.

There is plan to build a new refinery in South Dakota. The enviromentalists tried to block it but it got approved anyway. Fortunately it will be 10 years before it is up and operational from the time construction starts.

This is my opinion and I hope everyone takes it as such. I believe that there is no way you can point your finger at the man in White House and blame him for gas prices. The president actually has very little power to control such things. It is congress, which actually has a lower approval rating than the president, is the one responsible for not controlling gas prices. Raising taxes on oil companies is not going to do anything but bring the government more money to waste.

If we increase oil supply and keep gas "cheap" we will never invest in alternitive energy.
If the supply is there nobody will demand anything else.
Why buy the organic milk at the grocery store when the "normal" milk is cheaper? Yes the organic milk is better for you but the other is cheaper.
Same with oil, its cheaper, so why bother with the other. If the price of oil gets to high then the people will demand something else.
We will never get diesel LR's if the price of gas stays cheap.
A DII with the TD5 gets 28 mpg on the expressway. What would you rather have? Gas V8 or diesel? Cheap gas no diesel.

I'd rather have diesel anyday, regardless of the price of gas. Diesels are just better.

I would rather have a diesel too.

I guess my point is though that it is good old supply and demand. If the demand is higher than the supply they raise the price. If we lower our demand they will lower the price. If they drill for more then the demand will stay high and thus so will the price.

I dont think this was meant to be a political/heated thread. And I dont think anybody is trying to make it such.
But yes, IKE has raised the price of gas.

It will be hard to get diesels with out the EPA changing some rules on NOX and
particulates.

My car is diesel and will move,,, it only has 125hp and 250 ftlbstq
up from 90 hp and 155 tq.

I like to travel nonstop and a diesel is the best way.

They have come up with new particulate filters for diesels. We'll see how well they do...

They are also changing the cats to make them run hotter to burn up the particulates.

Yes but Fords uses diesel to super heat the cats to burn up the
particlates so thats why the 6.4L is a fuel hog.

Dodge cats are pluging up and mileage is down.

Mercedes and VW both have a different setup that takes less mileage
and power away.

Land Rover D-110"s just got a ford diesel in the UK with a new five speed,,
I ordered mine (LHD)for just over 34,000 GBP and then I was told they still not
get it imported .
I knew they could not import one but it may get LR thinking.
