Tom Woods front Driveshaft install
Here is a picture of my new front Tom Woods driveshaft:
The measurement is 24.5 inches (length). A few tips I thought to pass on.
The nuts used to hold the flanges together are soft and strip easily. I used a vice grip to hold them in place. It may be worthwhile to buy new nuts and bolts to go along with the new driveshaft.
Have a second person and a lift. I had a lift but worked alone. The second person should work the transfer case and shifter to lock and unlock the drivetrain. This way you can rotate the driveshaft to access all the nuts and bolts without having to climb up and down the lift several times.
Cheers,
Pete

Yes. They don't offer the boot since the cat is so close to the shaft. I ordered the XC long spline shaft, so there is plenty of travel left before it runs out.

Click the Land Rover link near the bottom. The pictures make more sense.

The factory shaft did not have a boot either and it lasted 134,000 miles. I am not worried about this one. Greasing it every oil change should keep it clear of debris and well lubricated.
For Sale: I have the old front driveshaft if anyone is interested in it. It is in good condition, although the u-joints on the cardon side are not greaseable. Make me an offer.

I have to get one too. Why did you get the XC? Which front d/s do you recommend I buy from them?? AT MOST I will only have a 2inch lift. But that will come MUCH LATER....
Thanks
Thanks
I am in the exact same situation as you. Currently I have a 1 inch spacer lift and expect another 1 inch lift from new OME medium duty springs. My measurement came out to 24.5 inches working length (with the Rover sitting in a parking lot).
I ordered the XC because it is only a few more bucks it is much stronger. If you go on their website they have comparison pictures between the regular and XC shaft. The exposed splines in the picture would not be there on a stock or normal D/S shaft, only on the XC. As far as grease and dirt their website recommends greasing the shaft (so to speak) every oil change to clear out dirt and water.
The total was $394.00 shipped. Ask them if you can get new hardware also. The factory nuts and bolts do not come off easily (mine did not anyway).
